About Maia and Fischer

Mom Maia

Maia was born in February 2010 to a family in Sheridan, Wyoming. Her mom was a golden retriever and her dad a standard poodle. She was the last of the litter and turned out to be the best dog. Maia has always been the most laid back dog, willing to play hard or just relax - making her the perfect dog! As a pup she had a very straight fluffy white coat and only weighed 40 pounds on her first birthday. She received her first haircut at 15 months and her coat came back in curly. After her second cut her coat became even more curly. Since her coat has turned into a perfect wave and she has started turning more cream colored with some yellow down her back. She now weighs just a little less than 60 pounds.

She drove the Alcan highway during our move to Alaska and just chilled in the front seat crammed among all of our other belongings and didn't mind the 3000+ miles at all.

She is very agile and fast. She loves to learn new tricks and balance on her hind legs for treats. She loves to leap and bound over things and run big circles around the yard. She is very gentle and would make a great service dog. She doesn't like toys very often, but will occasional play fetch or just chase after Fischer and play some keep away.

Maia when we added Fischer to the family. See his golden coat....

Dad Fischer

Fischer was born in August 2011 to a family in Palmer, Alaska. He was born to a golden retreiever and a standard poodle. We purchased Fischer so Maia would have a playmate and because we loved his golden curly coat. Fischer has always been needy for attention and just wants to play. He is eager to learn and loved his puppy class. We kennel trained Fischer as a puppy and he loves it still. Fischer grew quickly and was freqently clumsy. He can still be a little akward but is becoming more agile every month and can finally keep up with Maia and her speed. He loves to play fetch and has always been toy obssessed. It is rare you find him without one or two toys in his mouth.

Fischer has been a good traveler and his first pick trip was to Fairbanks a few months after we got him. He went snowshoeing in Denali at almost thirty below and loved the deep snow. He has been great on the boat, although he did have one run in with a hook that first summer. However, the boat made him queasy but he's since overcome that and doesn't need medicine. Both pups spend a lot of the summer in a tent or on the boat. Fischer loves the snow and burying his head in it! He also loves to pull us on cross country skis.

His coat remains curly, but he turned cream to white in color, only the tip of his tail (which I refuse to cut) remains his golden yellow color. He weighs just a little over 60 pounds but looks much larger than Maia. He stands taller too.
